Alabama's incredible betting streak under Nick Saban is unlikely to snap in 2023

Much like Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak in baseball or Jerry Rice’s 208 touchdowns as a wide receiver, there are certain streaks in sports that seem untouchable.

The Alabama Crimson Tide’s streak as a home favorite seems like one of those.

It’s very rare for a college football team to be dominant over the course of several decades — and so much so that it is favored in every home game that it plays.

But such is the case with the Crimson Tide, a team that has won six national championships since Nick Saban took over as head coach in 2007.

Coincidentally, that is also the last year Alabama was a home underdog: Nov. 3, 2007 as a 6.5-point home ‘dog against LSU. The Crimson Tide lost that game 41-34.

Since that game, Alabama has been favored in 104 straight home games … and that streak is unlikely to be broken this season. The Crimson Tide are favored by 7 points at DraftKings Sportsbook in home games against Texas (Week 3) and LSU (Week 11) this season, and will be larger favorites against their other opponents. That would mean the streak will reach 111 games by Thanksgiving.

The Crimson Tide have won a ridiculous 98 of those 104 games outright, but have struggled against increasingly large spreads set by oddsmakers. Alabama is just 55-48-1 ATS (52.9%) over that span.
