I’m an interior designer – the furniture I’d never buy, a popular seat poses a risk to your health
AN interior design expert has revealed the top three furniture trends he avoids in his own home.
The decor professional revealed that one of the items may actually pose a risk to your safety.
In his video, TikTok user Phoenix Grey (@mrphoenixgrey) shared the “furniture that I would never buy as an interior designer.”
For his first recommendation, the TikToker advised his followers to steer clear of couches with no armrests.
“I get it yes they are extremely beautiful and they really add a unique shape and style to a space but are they practical? Absolutely not,” he said.
Phoenix pointed out the impracticality of the trendy furniture piece.
“They are such a waste of usable space because no one is sitting near the edge because it feels really uncomfortable and you end up feeling like you’re closer to each other,” he explained.
“Then the rest of the sofa ends up being completely useless,” the interior designer added.
For his next tip, Phoenix warned his followers against purchasing barstools without backrests for their homes.
He explained that by buying these items you may be “risking the health of yourself and your guests.”
“Honestly, these backless stools are a hazard waiting to happen, the lack of lumbar support really puts you at risk,” Phoenix said.
“There is a reason why barstools in restaurants don’t have a back, they want you to be uncomfortable because they want you to leave so keep that in mind when choosing stools for your home,” he added.
For his final suggestion, Phoenix explained why you should always opt for a plain-colored kitchen appliance.
He detailed the hassle people often face when trying to replace their uniquely colored equipment.
“As beautiful as they are I need you to keep in mind when they break down and you need to replace them, you’re never going to be able to find the exact same colorway,” he said.
Phoenix continued: “Specifically if it’s a trendy color that you’ve matched your furniture to.”
He suggested using cabinet paneling to cover your appliance if you want a more aesthetically pleasing kitchen.
“So if you are replacing those pieces when they break down then all you have to do is have the same cabinet face,” he explained.
TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the advice.
“Double yes to the backless stools. People with back issues need the lumbar support,” wrote one viewer.
Another follower said: “100 percent on the armless sofas! Unless it comes with a partner to lean your pillow on.”
“So agreed. Especially not having a backrest, it’s so uncomfortable for a variety of reasons, and personally, I can’t sit on them long,” commented a third person.
