Western countries without clear recognition conditions: Muttaqi
On Tuesday, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi highlighted that Western nations employ the recognition matter as a pressure tactic. Yet, they have not outlined the specific conditions required for such recognition.
Addressing the government’s accountability program, Muttaqi emphasized that the global community demands an inclusive government, human rights adherence, and security issues. However, he pointed out that no country has received recognition based on these criteria.
“That’s why we can consider this as an excuse. No country in the world does not have competition and is not criticized by anyone. There must be no opposition throughout the country. Not even an acre of land is under the control of the opposition. There is no dispute, no insecurity. Drugs have been reduced to zero,” Muttaqi said.
However, since the Taliban took control of the country, they introduced more than 60 suppressive policies which wiped out women from public space, including education and employment.
According to the UN report, “The Taliban in Afghanistan have systematically restricted the human rights of women and girls and suffocated all aspects of their lives, UN experts said, adding such treatment could amount to “gender apartheid.”
However, a recent UNAMA report released Tuesday highlights that over 200 extrajudicial killings of former Afghan government officials and security forces have occurred since the Taliban assumed control of the country.
Muttaqi also said that the Taliban administration is notably more inclusive than certain governments that call for inclusion in the country. “If this is a legal and unanimous request, why not be raised with another country? In the world, we see coup governments, elected governments and governments of one family and one person. There are different governments. But these conditions have not been provided to them,” he said.
Reports indicate a concerning trend where most government-ranking officials comprise exclusively Taliban members, raising questions about the absence of women in their administration.
Following the Taliban’s assumption of power, no country has not officially recognized their regime. However, several countries, such as Iran, China, Turkey, and Pakistan, maintain informal diplomatic relations with the group.
However, since the resurgence of the Taliban, the country has been grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis. The imposition of stringent restrictions on women and girls has deprived them of their fundamental rights, including access to education and employment.
