Coronation Street’s Adam Barlow star looks completely unrecognisable 20 years after soap exit in new ITV drama

A FORMER Coronation Street star looked unrecognisable in a first-look at his upcoming ITV drama.

Iain De Caestecker was the original actor to play Adam Barlow in Coronation Street.

He last appeared in the soap 20 years ago and in 2004 the role was recast with actor Sam Robertson.

Now Iain, 35, is gearing up for a starring role in ITV’s The Winter King.

A promo shot for the show shared on Instagram showed Iain looking worlds away from his former Weatherfield role.

The Winter King is based on Bernard Cornwell’s Warlord Chronicles series.

Described as a Game of Thrones-style drama, The Winter King is set in the fifth century, long before Britain was united.

Iain also shared a teaser clip of the show on Instagram.

The actor previously appeared in Marvel TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and has also appeared in dramas including Lip Service and Taggart.

After it was reported Coronation Street replaced him in the hunt for a “super handsome” actor, Iain said: “I was just a kid who landed a good part.

“I’d no idea it was watched by millions. I hadn’t even seen Corrie.

“It’s probably true I wasn’t good looking enough but I’ve no hard feelings.”
