'Dark Brandon' ads backing abortion rights swarm FoxNews.com ahead of debate

President Biden's re-election campaign has placed a large ad buy on the Fox News website ahead of Wednesday night's first GOP primary debate, using the event to promote pro-choice messaging while making use of a popular meme relating to the president.

The "Dark Brandon" ads will be displayed on FoxNews.com beginning at midnight Tuesday running through Thursday morning "highlighting President Biden’s commitment to fighting a national abortion ban and codify Roe," the campaign said.

"Get real, Jack. I'm bringing Roe back," the ad reads.

Fox News is set to air Wednesday night's first 2024 GOP debate and make it available to stream for free on its website, FoxNews.com

The president's campaign has also commissioned a mobile billboard circling the debate site in Milwaukee alternating between four ads, all using the Dark Brandon imaging and taglines.

Dark Brandon is an internet character created by Biden's White House seizing on the "Let's Go Brandon" chant that has been widely used by conservatives and critics of the president as a pejorative stemming from a viral internet video in 2021.

Merchandise featuring the laser-eyed Biden has been popular among his supporters, with the campaign saying it accounts for more than half of online purchase revenue.

"Only Dark Brandon knows where he'll appear," Biden deputy campaign manager Rob Flaherty told People magazine, which first reported the Fox News ad buy.

"I think it fits both the president's ethos of going everywhere and not writing off any voters," Flaherty said. "It also speaks to the sort of strided, swaggy Dark Brandon personality of, 'Yeah, we're going to go on Fox News and talk about protecting and restoring Roe.'"
