Ex-Everton and Tottenham midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson closes in on footy return with club ‘optimistic’ over signing
GYLFI SIGURDSSON could be set for a return to football with Danish side Lyngby, according to reports.
The Icelandic international, 33, left Everton in June 2022 when his contract expired.
And the midfielder, who also spent two seasons at Tottenham, has not joined any club since – despite being linked with Wayne Rooney’s MLS side DC United earlier this summer.
But Lyngby manager Freyr Alexandersson has now hinted he could be set for a move to the Danish Superliga club.
He told Bold: “There is always hope.
“We are in good dialogue with Gylfi, so right now I’m optimistic that it can happen.
“But right now there is nothing in place. So we just have to give him a few weeks so he can work on those things in relation to his body.
“So let’s look at it within two/three weeks.”
Lyngby sit seventh out of 12 teams after five games of the new season.
Sigurdsson is an experienced Premier League operator having made more than 300 appearances in England’s top flight.
They came in spells with Swansea, Tottenham and Everton.
And he contributed 67 goals and 52 assists in the division, before departing last year.
Sigurdsson has also racked up 75 caps for his country, netting 25 goals.
