Terrifying moment man is brutally battered by thugs wielding baseball bats – as he is left cowering on the ground
THIS is the moment a man was brutally battered by thugs wielding baseball bats in broad daylight in a commuter town.
The victim was left cowering on the ground in the afternoon attack carried out in Rainham in Havering, east London.
Widely-shared footage was posted on X/Twitter by the @CrimeLdn account, adding the words: “This happened in Rainham on Sunday.”
The Metropolitan Police tonight confirmed they were investigating the assault which happened on Sunday shortly after 3.30pm.
The video appeared to be filmed from within a nearby shop, showing a car pulling up as a man walks along the street towards it.
The clip cuts to attackers repeatedly beating their victim with bats.
The person originally uploading the footage captioned it with the words: “Something’s kicking off.”
Scotland Yard tonight appealed for any witnesses, as they revealed the attackers were still at large.
The Met said they were called out “following reports of a fight involving a number of people” – with some “in possession of weapons including baseball bats”.
But they said all involved had left the scene before cops got there.
The force added: “Officers conducted local hospital checks and traced a victim who had been assaulted as a result of the incident.
“He had suffered a head injury as well as cuts and bruises to his body. He has since been discharged from hospital.”
The Met added that “at this early stage no arrests have been made” but urged any witnesses to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
Elsewhere, footage also filmed on Sunday showed a brawl breaking out between youths at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent.
Saturday saw a 50-man battle in Greater Manchester, after Bolton Wanderers beat Wigan Athletic in a League One football fixture.
Other recent outbreaks of violence include a street fight involving poles in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
Swords and baseball bats were used by gangs clashing in broad daylight in Balsall Heath near Birmingham city centre.
