I fainted and ruined a wedding – I think the bride’s reaction was harsh but people say she has every right to be angry

A WEDDING guest has split opinions after fainting during the ceremony when she ignored advice to eat before attending.

The 21-year-old woman said the bride was left in tears as the photographer’s camera lens broke when he kneeled down to help her after the fall.

She explained in a lengthy Reddit post that she only ate a granola bar before her aunt’s wedding because she had been “extremely busy.”

The “embarrassed” niece said the bride was furious at her and upset that she wouldn’t have any good photos from her big day.

She wrote: “I was not part of the wedding, just a guest which I was fine with. Before the wedding, everyone was advised to drink lots of water and to eat beforehand because it was going to be extremely hot that day.

“The wedding started at 5:00 pm, and I had absolutely nothing to eat or drink up until then except maybe a granola bar because I was extremely busy that day.

“So when it was time for the wedding, I was already tired and hungry.

“About thirty minutes into the wedding, (which was at a church), I was feeling uneasy and lightheaded so I excused myself to go to the washroom.

“As I was walking, I got that feeling like I was about to collapse. The next thing I can remember was coming to and seeing lots of people surrounding me including the bride and groom.”

The woman said she may have been “too dizzy” to have seen the photographer before falling onto him.

She continued: “The wedding was a bit of a cheaper one, so the photographer was a family friend of the groom who only had one camera with him.

“The bride was in tears that she wouldn’t have any good pictures from her wedding. The photographer insisted that he could drive home and grab a different one, but it would take too long.

“The bride was indeed mad at me, but I feel it was a bit harsh as it was extremely embarrassing for me already.

“Fainting never even crossed my mind as something that would happen at all. They did get pictures but they were on cellphones. AITA [Am I the a**hole]?”

Responses to the post argued that although the woman couldn’t have prevented herself from fainting she was in the wrong to ignore the advice given.

One person commented: “YTA [you are the a***hole] as an adult you should have known better to hydrate, and you were warned but chose to ignore it.

“No one is too busy to drink f***ing water. Take some responsibility for your health.”

Another wrote: “YTA [you are the a**hole]. Drinking a bottle of water and eating a sandwich takes five minutes.

“I refuse to believe you were that busy all day that you couldn’t stop for five minutes. As a result, you risked your health, broke a camera, and ruined a wedding.”

A third said: “I would say a soft YTA [you are the a**hole]. You obviously didn’t mean any harm or meant to do these things but you also chose to ignore their requests to avoid this very thing from happening.

“Not getting to have real photos for your wedding day is a big deal. If I were you, I would apologize profusely and not diminish their valid anger in the situation. It sucks but this one’s on you.”

Other commenters disagreed and claimed the woman would only be in the wrong if she had deliberately ruined the wedding.

A Reddit user said: “Not a popular opinion here but obviously you’re NTA [not the a**hole].

“You’re sorry and s**t happens. I agree you could have prepared better but nobody faints for fun (or falls on a photographer).

“If you cracked your head and ended in a coma would you still be a TA [the a**hole] in these people’s eyes? No, you’d get sympathy.

“I honestly believe you’re only the a**hole if you purposely do something out of order. Accident happen. Intent is everything to me.”

Another commented: “If it’s hot provide water for your guests, it’s not like it’s expensive… a few snacks as well.

“The photographer not bringing a second camera or lens… amateur move.

“NTA [not the a***hole]. They f***ed themselves over by being cheap, you did nothing wrong.”
