Woman dead after being hit by car in Vernon

A woman is dead after being hit by a car in Vernon early Thursday.

The victim was struck by a motorist on Route 83 in the area of Pitkin Road shortly after 5 a.m., according to the Vernon Police Department. The pedestrian has not been identified.

The road was closed in the area Thursday morning while police investigated. As of about 9 a.m., police said the road had reopened.
