Bottega Veneta is going back in time for its latest shoe launch — all the way to the ’90s, in fact.
For fall 2023, the Italian luxury brand has introduced its newest sneaker design by creative director Matthieu Blazy: the Orbit. Available on its website now, the $990 unisex style features a round-toed silhouette with ridged runner-style outsoles, which span the front of its toes to the middle of its counters.
Aside from its clearly sporty base, the lace-up shoe also harkens back to the ’90s with its uppers: a paneled mesh and technical fabric base, overlaid with open-knit mesh and topped by overlapping technical uppers. The resulting layered effect — complete with its runner soles, also a signature of the decade — instantly brings to mind the same chunky and multi-textured styles from decades past, which were often worn for workouts and outdoor athletic activities.
To appeal to a wide range of customers, the Orbit comes in three colorways. One features shiny dark green, white and gray uppers with black outsoles, while another sees a similar construction with white, silver and gray hues atop light brown outsoles. Rounding out the set is its final darker counterpart, crafted with matte black uppers overlaid with charcoal and light gray paneling.
All three iterations of the Orbit sneaker are currently available on Bottega Veneta’s website and boutiques.
In other Bottega Veneta news, the shoe release follows the label’s viral launch of its fall 2023 campaign. Shot by Malick Bodian, Sander Muylaert and Louise and Maria Thornfeldt, the imagery finds models draped in Blazy’s textured designs in everyday settings in Milan — from lounging at home to casually walking down the street.
