Police investigate deadly shooting in SE Topeka, suspect in custody

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Police are investigating a Thursday afternoon deadly shooting in southeast Topeka.

Shawnee County Dispatch confirms the Topeka Police Department (TPD) is investigating a shooting in the 3300 block of SE Emerson Street. The shooting was first reported around 3 p.m. on Sept. 7.

Rosie Nichols with the City of Topeka said in a press release that police found one person suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound at the scene. This individual was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and was later pronounced dead around 3:30 p.m.

Police at the scene told a KSNT 27 News reporter that one suspect is in custody and cooperating with law enforcement. Police are speaking to witnesses at the scene as they investigate the incident.
