SRO America Reveals Barber Motorsports Park, Sebring As 2024 Calendar Additions

0

The 2024 SRO Motorsports America racing calendar is complete, as things stand, with Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS and its supporting series making a welcome return to Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama for the first time since 2016.

Taking place on 6-8 September, it will be the first time that either of North America’s “big two” sports car racing promoters have staged a major event at Barber since the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge season. The Grand-Am Sports Car Series visited the 3.83-kilometre circuit every year from its opening in 2003, until the final season before the IMSA merger in 2013.

“Barber Motorsports Park is excited to welcome SRO Motorsports to Alabama,” said George Dennis, president of Barber Motorsports Park event promoter ZOOM Motorsports. “This exciting, sports-car-focused event is a great addition to our 2024 race schedule and will entertain fans from all over the southeast.”

Barber fills in a September calendar slot that was originally revealed as “TBA” when the SRO released its first provisional 2024 calendars on 1 July.

The September date has been occupied by Sebring International Raceway since 2021. Despite some fears that SRO America would not return to the historic venue in 2024, Sebring has now been confirmed for next season, moving up to 3-5 May and replacing NOLA Motorsports Park – which will not return next year.

The mid-summer event at VIRginia International Raceway, originally scheduled for 14-16 June, has also moved back one month to 19-21 July.

All other events remain unchanged for the upcoming season: GT World Challenge America, Pirelli GT4 America, GT America powered by AWS, TC America powered by Skip Barber, and Toyota GR Cup North America will all open the 2024 season at Sonoma Raceway on 5-7 April.

Along with NOLA, the Nashville Street Circuit has been dropped with the Music City Grand Prix moving to a new date as the IndyCar Series finale. Taking its place is GT America’s stand-alone return to Long Beach on the weekend of 19-21 April in support of the IndyCar Grand Prix of Long Beach – an announcement that was originally made on 28 August.

“This will be an exciting addition to our weekend race lineup in 2024,” said Grand Prix Association of Long Beach President & CEO Jim Michaelian. “GT America brings a very competitive series with well-known marques that our fans are sure to recognize. It rounds out a diverse slate of racing that is sure to keep everybody at the edge of their seats all weekend.”

The dates for Circuit of the Americas on 17-19 May and Road America on 16-18 August remain unchanged, as does the Indianapolis 8 Hour endurance race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, scheduled for the weekend of 4-6 October – which means that Indy will host two major endurance sports car races, two weeks apart, following confirmation of the 2024 IMSA Battle on the Bricks’ extension to a six-hour race.

“We’re thrilled to announce the updates our team has diligently worked to secure for the 2024 season,” said SRO Motorsports America President and CEO Greg Gill. “We always aim to bring our competitors back to the locations they truly enjoy racing, and this schedule reflects the effort to make that desire a reality.”
