Man Utd scrambling to sell flop midfielder this summer - report
Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek could end up staying at Old Trafford till January, according to Manchester Evening News.
The 26-year-old was eyed by Real Sociedad earlier in the summer, but the La Liga side decided against signing him.
Saudi Arabia could have been a possible destination for Van de Beek, but the transfer market for the Saudi Pro League is set to close in the next hour.
The only possible exit route left for the Dutchman is Turkey. Their transfer window is open for another week, with Fenerbahce interested in acquiring his services.
Man Utd failed to offload Donny van de Beek
It will be a failure for Man United if Van de Beek stays at Old Trafford post this summer.
The midfielder is deemed surplus to requirement.
He was left out of the Red Devils’ 25-man squad for the 2023-24 Champions League group stage.
This shows he is no longer a part of Erik ten Hag’s plans.
Van de Beek switched to the Theatre of Dreams from Ajax in 2020 in a deal worth around £30 million.
He has made only 60 appearances for United as he faced problems with fitness and form.
He spent time on loan at Everton in the 2021-22 season but failed to impress during his stint at Goodison Park.
Arrivals of Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat further pushed him down in the pecking order.
The Red Devils would hope that Fenerbahce sign the midfielder, either permanently or on a loan.
Not only United but Van de Beek also needs an exit to revive his career that has nosedived over the past three years.
