Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes are getting far more betting attention than the NFL

0

The public’s love affair with betting Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes team has not subsided heading into Week 2.

BetMGM reported on Friday morning that there were more bets on the Colorado-Nebraska game than any of Sunday or Monday’s 15 NFL games — something that’s almost unprecedented. It also reported that there were three times the number of wagers on Colorado-Nebraska than any other college football game. As of Friday morning, 82% of the bets on the game at BetMGM were on Colorado -3.

“We’re getting buried with Colorado money,” TwinSpires retail sportsbook director Zachary Lucas told me on Friday. ” The liability isn’t as big as last week because the moneyline isn’t paying 8-1, but it’ll easily a top-three decision this weekend. We have 80% of tickets and 88% of money on Colorado ML, the spread isn’t as big of a disparity here.”

At PointsBet/Fanatics, Colorado to cover had more bets than 30 of the 32 NFL teams (Chiefs and Lions the exception). What’s wild is that Colorado-Nebraska is the biggest betting game right now on a college football slate that includes Texas-Alabama.

Colorado was around an 8.5-point underdog for its Week 2 home opener against Nebraska before its Week 1 game. After beating then-No. 17 TCU, the Buffs re-opened as 1.5-point home underdogs. That line was quickly bet to Colorado -3, where it has pretty much remained (with some books briefly testing Colorado -3.5).
