JUNIOR 4NCL (Nations Chess League): Season 8 – Round 1 report
SEASON 2023-24
JUNIOR 4NCL (Nations Chess League)
Thurs 7th Sept 23 – 6:00pm
Season 8 – Round 1
Division Three – Group A
A joint venture between Castlehill Chess Club Dundee and Dundee Chess Club.
RESULT
Dundee City Juniors (700) 3½ – 3½ (1194) Ojay`s D
It was a difficult start for our juniors on many fronts! Our junior rising star, Rishi Vijayakumar has moved on to pastures new in his rapid rise up the chess grading ladder! He will still fill in if we are short of players, but hopefully we can fill the gaps with new players.
Of course for the moment it has had a big effect on the team grading, but I am sure our juniors will rise to the challenge!
First match up in round one and we were massively out graded on all boards, but our players stood their ground under intense pressure to secure the draw with a bit of luck, or in the case of Ojay`s D, bad luck!
On board one, Josh Dickson J12 (983) won his first game against his opponent rated 1283! He lost his second one, but not without having his chances. Well played Josh!
On board two, Noah Dickson J10 (675), massively out graded (1217), managed an outstanding draw in his first game, before going down fighting in his second match. Well played Noah!
On board three, Alexander Barron-Majerik J12 (558) and playing his first Junior 4NCL match for a while faced an opponent graded 1156. Alexander put up a brave fight, but in the end his opponent was just to strong and he lost both matches. Chin up Alexander as that was a very tough match against a very strong opponent!
On board 4, Haoqi Liu J13 (474) had a frustrating time, as his opponent was a no show, so he won both matches by default. While this is good for the team, for Haoqi, Dundee City team and all our juniors, it`s about playing matches and getting more experience at this level that counts more than a default win, but that’s life sometimes! Haoqi will get his chance soon to prove himself!
The match finished 3½ – 4½ to Ojay`s D, but they had a ½ point deducted for each defaulted match (1 point in total), so the official score-line was 3½ – 3½ (draw) in the end.
Well played everyone, that was a good start to the campaign and we can build on that, but it will be tough!
The battle continues with round 2 taking place on Thurs 21st Sept 23, 6pm! Opponents: Suffolk Juniors (1539)!
