Exclusive: Jeremy Scott Shares His Top Advice for Emerging Designers
The former Moschino creative director served as emcee for the Supima Design Competition 2023.
Jeremy Scott returned to the runway at New York Fashion Week, thanks to Supima. The former Moschino designer was in Manhattan for the nonprofit’s 16th annual group fashion show on Thursday, which he hosted at the Prince George Ballroom.
“It feels like no pressure, because I don’t have a show,” Scott exclusively shared backstage with FN before the competition began. “I’m very at ease being backstage when it’s not my show. When it’s my show, obviously there’s a million questions that are all for me. This one is very much not of that sort, so I went and checked on all the designers and made sure that they felt well and felt at ease, and calm and secure.”

During his meetings with this year’s eight student designers — including winner Carla Pierini of Drexel University — Scott had the opportunity to share his longtime industry knowledge, often highlighting what emerging brands should know before entering the industry full-time. According to the designer, authenticity is key when doing so.
“Be yourself and tell your story,” Scott said. “Make the collection and the work as pure to you as possible — and that is going to resonate the most for the audience.”

Scott’s hosting appearance his latest fashion project in 2023, following a Hyundai collaboration and releasing the “Dip” collection for his longtime Adidas line. As for what the future holds? The designer teased that he’ll be re-entering design soon — possibly sooner than we think.
“I still have my line with Adidas I’ve been doing for many years,” Scott said. “And yes, it’s true — this is the first season for September that I have not had a show in 27 years, so I am taking the season off. I am doing this supporting hosting gig to help the future talents here, but you’ll be seeing me back on the runways very soon.”
NYFW is held in New York City in September, marking the start of Fashion Month. The spring 2024 season will see a calendar of fashion shows and presentations from a range of designers, including Ralph Lauren, Christian Siriano, Proenza Schouler and more. The occasion will also include numerous parties and activations from brands like Aldo, J.Crew, MCM and more.
