“New start, fresh start, younger. I do understand and I think it’s quite a good idea.
“Of course I would have done it.
“I’m being really honest now, but in retrospect I don’t think it would have been the right fit for me.
“It’s nostalgic for me. It’s come a long way since I hosted it and I am a different person.”
Davina hosted the very first series of Big Brother on Channel 4 in the summer of 2000.
She went on to front the show until 2010.
ITV has already committed to two series of the new BB — one this autumn, the other next year.
And the reinvention will be hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best.
Davina went on to admit that she wasn’t sure how the pair of them hosting together was going to work, but has since given them her blessings.
She continued: “When I saw AJ and Will at the NTAs – because I wasn’t sure how that was going to work – seeing them together I thought oh I get it.
“It’s all about the connection right? I spoke to AJ and I did think it was quite daunting but I wanted to give her my blessing.
“I know I didn’t need to but I wanted to pass on the baton and talking to her, it’s in safe hands and she knows what a big responsibility it is, and she’s taking it really seriously.
“Let’s get behind it people.”
