LASRAB HOLDS STAKEHOLDERS’ FORUM ON RETENTION SCHEDULE
Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB) organised a Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for the development of general records retention and disposal schedule for common administrative records in the Lagos State Public Service.
The event, which is the second in the series, took place on Thursday at LASRAB House, Magodo Phase 2, and had in attendance Directorate-level officers representing various MDAs as forum members.
According to the Director, Admin. & Human Resources, LASRAB, Mrs. Dopemu-Dosunmu, who represented the Director-General of LASRAB, “The Stakeholders’ forum provided the opportunity to discuss the scope, functions and objectives of general records retention and disposal schedule and make informed inputs as it affects all MDAs’ records to promote their effective management throughout the State in a uniform standard.
“Furthermore, the forum serves as a platform to regularly engage and further enlighten all MDAs on the newly introduced Records Unit service-wide
for continued monitoring and maintenance of their records and information assets as the State’s unique documentary heritage”, she added.
Dosunmu further reiterated that the major aim of the forum was to enhance Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda in all its forms, saying “This is more apt, especially for the Smart City initiative that would be driven by the availability of reliable and accurate data for good governance and ease of doing business”.
“At completion, the records retention and disposal schedule would serve as an authoritative instrument that would stipulate how long public records, in physical and electronic platforms, must be kept for accountability and easy public access before their eventual transfer to the archives or disposal as obsolete information”, Dopemu-Dosunmu stated.
Earlier in her remarks, Mrs. Onanuga Adetayo, Director, Ministry of Establishment and Training, expressed her optimism at the laudable initiative as one that will enhance productivity and promote work standardisation across the State’s public service.
