Kith Celebrates Its Toronto Opening With Two New Balance 1700s Inspired by the City
To coincide with the Friday opening of its new Toronto flagship store, Kith has announced versions of the New Balance 1700 inspired by the city.
Red and white form both versions of the shoe, with one version essentially serving as the inverse of the other. A premium pigskin leather is used across the upper on each, and a Kith logo on the heel serves as the lone callout for the brand. Choosing between the two colorways is an exercise in picking which color dominates the shoe. The “Rococco Red” colorway is predominantly red with off-white accents, while “Marshmallow” is predominantly off-white with red accents.
Kith has a tradition of creating a special-edition shoe to christen a new store opening. In March, the arrival of a new location in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn was accompanied by a three-way collaboration with Clarks and Adidas for a three-pack of Sambas featuring a crepe sole. A new Miami store also opened in March and brought with it an Asics Gell Lyte 3 in a “Remastered Super Yellow” treatment. That same month, Kith Beverly Hills in Los Angeles was paired with the Asics Gel-Lyte 3 “Remastered Super Orange.”
In total, Kith now has 13 stores in four countries. It also maintains three dedicated spaces inside department stores in the New York City area and London.
The Kith x New Balance 1700 “Rococco Red” will first release Friday, Sept. 22, exclusively at the Kith Toronto store and then again Monday, Sept. 22, on Kith’s American, Canadian, and European websites. That same day, the “Marshmallow” version will get a broader wider release through the same websites and all Kith stores.
