Dirty Dancing had been due to air on Sunday afternoon but the much-loved 80s classic starring Patrick Swayze is no longer listed in the TV guide.

The cult classic, in which Swayze’s dance instructor character Johnny strikes up a frowned upon romance with Jennifer Grey’s Baby at a US holiday camp, is never far from a TV screen due to its popularity 36 years on from its release.

One disappointed telly viewer commented on an X post by TV Zone about the schedule change: “I’m openly weeping.”

One fan replied: “Just don’t show it. If they are delaying it week after week after week, then just don’t show the damn film.”

Another person said: “A film about an older bloke and a younger woman? Can’t imagine why that was considered inappropriate this week.”

The movie has such enduring appeal there was a TV series to recreate its key scenes recently.

The cast includes a mix of reality stars, soap actors and TV presenters.

The Channel’s Sunday classic movie line-up is now Sandra Bullock‘s Miss Congeniality 2 followed by Tomb Rader and Ocean’s 11.

Earlier this year actress Jennifer Grey confirmed a Dirty Dancing sequel is definitely happening and said she would only be involved if it honoured Swayze appropriately following his death in 2009.

She told Good Morning America: “We’re not giving up any dates at the moment because… really, what I’m doing, my whole job with this, is to get it right, get it really right, in Patrick’s honor, in honor of all of the fans’ relationship with the movie. If you’re going to do that movie again, it has to be right.

“It’s definitely happening. I’m very excited to say that. It’s something I refuse to do unless it’s perfect, so I’m doing my very best to make sure we honor it.”
