A Carlos Santana Documentary Is Coming to Theaters

Carlos Santana is hitting the big screen. Sony Picture Classics and Trafalgar Releasing announced the global theatrical distribution plans for “Carlos,” a documentary about the legendary guitarist and 10-time Grammy winner, Carlos Santana, which hits theaters this weekend.

Directed by Rudy Valdez, the film combines new interviews with Santana and his family, never-before-seen archival footage, concert footage, behind-the-scenes moments and interviews with music industry luminaries and collaborators. It follows his journey of becoming one of the greatest guitar legends, from hitting the stage at Woodstock to making his hit ’90s album Supernatural.”

The movie is set to launch in select cinemas with a two-day premiere event, “Carlos: The Santana Journey Global Premiere,” on Sept. 23 and 27, including exclusive introductory content featuring Santana and Valdez.

Last year, Santana relaunched his women’s fashion footwear label, Carlos by Carlos Santana, in partnership with original brand stewards Gary Rich and Rick Gelber. Together they have formed the venture Jubilation LLC, which will oversee the brand.

The musician originally debuted his eponymous shoe label in 2001, under license with St. Louis-based footwear giant Brown Shoe Co. (now Caleres). After a nearly two-decade run, it was shuttered in 2019 when Caleres made several changes to its brand portfolio.

The new Carlos by Carlos Santana collection consists of a variety of women’s styles, including casual shoes, dress looks, boots and fashion sneakers, featuring leather uppers sourced in Brazil and Italy. Retail prices range from $100 to $250.
