Pedestrian struck and killed by New Britain police officer; state police investigating
A female pedestrian was struck and killed by a police officer in New Britain early Thursday.
The accident was reported at about 1:10 a.m. on West Main Street where the woman, who has not been identified, was walking north and attempting to cross the street in the area east of Lexington Street, according to Connecticut State Police. A New Britain police officer heading west in a Ford Interceptor struck the woman in the westbound lane, state police said.
The woman was transported to the Hospital of Central Connecticut and died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash, according to state police.
The officer involved, whose identity has not been released, did not report any injuries, state police said.
The pedestrian’s next of kin will be notified once the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner positively identifies her.
The State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad are investigating the crash at the request of the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office.
