Hooters, Boca Raton first responders’ cornhole event raises $8K
The sixth annual Cornhole Tournament was put on by Hooters of Boca Raton along with the Boca Raton Firefighters and Paramedics Benevolent recently, raising a record $8,000 to benefit the Boca Raton Fire Explorers Program.
Since partnering with Hooters of Boca Raton six years ago, over $24,000 has been raised for the Explorer Scholarship fund.
“I’m thrilled to have Hooters of Boca Raton work with the Boca Raton Firefighters in hosting the annual Hooters Cornhole Tournament that benefits the Boca Raton Explorers Program,” said Jonathan Vought, captain in the EMS Division and lead advisor of the Explorers Program.
“It’s uplifting to see people come together and enjoy a night out while contributing to the future firefighters and paramedics of our community.
The Boca Raton Fire Rescue Explorers program is a fire department-sponsored program designed to mentor youths from ages 14 to 21 who are interested in the fire service.
Their weekly meetings are focused on the fire and emergency medical training that will give them an advantage in the Fire and EMS academies as well as give them life skills like discipline, confidence and responsibility.
During their tenure as an explorer, they can become eligible for the Countess De Hoernle scholarship that covers 100% of their tuition costs to the Fire and EMS academies that are required to be hired in the fire department. Since the fund’s inception in 2008, they’ve awarded about $100,000 in scholarships to recipients, many of whom currently work for the Boca Raton Fire Department.
The first place team of Kevin Crossman and Mike Poloskey received a $150 Hooters gift card.
“Our local community and firefighters from all over the state have a great time participating and playing cornhole to raise money for a good cause, ” said LTP Management Managing Partner Chris Torelli. LTP Management, a franchisee of Hooters of America, owns and operates 16 locations in South Florida. “We had a huge turnout for our sixth annual event. “We love partnering with the Boca Raton Firefighters and Paramedics Benevolent.”
The event also included a buffet, a 50/50 raffle, music by Six After Midnight with participants Just Baked Boca and Be A Boss Chick.
