Leggy celebs flash their undies as they embrace ‘no-trouser’ trend – from Rita Ora to Rochelle Humes
THEY say less is more in fashion circles, but celebs are taking it to extremes.
From models Cara Delevingne and Hailey Bieber to singer Rita Ora, it seems they are going all fancy-pants by ditching their, er, trousers.
Posh knickers with tights, oversized coats and chunky shoes are the new order of the day.
Designers such as Miu Miu, Chanel and Saint Laurent showcased the undergarment trend on their autumn/winter catwalks, but presenter Rochelle Humes was ahead of the curve, wearing a pair to the Royal Albert Hall last year.
More recently, The Crown’s Emma Corrin sported a garish green pant set to the Venice Film Festival.
For most of us, the thought of leaving the house in just our knickers is the stuff of nightmares.
But celebrity stylist Martine Alexander, who has dressed the likes of actresses Kym Marsh and Michelle Keegan, reckons a pared-back version of the trouserless-trend will soon be seen on the High Street.
She said: “This looks set to be a fast-fashion hit with the younger generation.
“Companies like Pretty Little Thing and Boohoo quickly replicate this type of look and a more evening style of pants with dark tights would work on a night out.
“It’s almost like going out wearing a bodysuit with a blazer over the top, so it’s quite accessible.
“I don’t think the idea of wearing pants that look like they have been borrowed from your boyfriend will catch on, though.”
We take a look at the stars who are fans of underwear as outerwear.
MY VIEW
ABBY McHale, Deputy Fashion Editor, says: Celebrities love to push boundaries and fashion bible Vogue has now thrown its weight behind the trouserless trend.
But I think this one is best left to A-listers and red carpets, as us mere mortals would likely get kicked out of Tesco if we showed up to do the weekly shop in just our pants.
I’m all for wearing a short jumper or blazer dress, but having your knickers on show seems a step too far.
While the likes of Kendall Jenner and Emma Corrin have the pins to pull this look off, winter is coming and nylons with tighty-whities will not keep us warm. It’s a no from me.
