The Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, has requested the Indian government to permanently freeze the Free Movement Regime (FMR) agreement between India and Myanmar. The agreement allows people living near the border to travel 16 km into each other's territories without any documents. Singh believes that this agreement has hindered efforts to control illegal migration from Myanmar. He has also called for immediate fencing of the border to prevent further influx. The Chief Minister has emphasized the need to address real issues such as illegal immigration, drug abuse, and poppy cultivation in the state.
