I’m a dental hygienist who loves coffee – this is how I get rid of brown teeth stains and make them sparkling at home
A DENTAL hygienist has shared the exact method she uses to make her teeth pearly white after drinking coffee.
Tiff often uses her social media account to share her lifestyle, fashion and beauty hacks, tips and tricks.
But working as a dental hygienist means she’s especially knowledgeable when it comes to the way her teeth look.
And as someone who drinks coffee a lot, Tiff said she follows a simple method to ensure her teeth are never stained.
“How I whiten my teeth at home as a dental hygienist,” she said as she started the video.
The first step you have to take, she said, is to floss your teeth.
“You want to remove as much plaque and debris to get better results,” she wrote as she took a piece of string and flossed her upper and lower teeth.
She explained that she used the C-shaped method, which is when you wrap the floss around the middle fingers of your hands.
You then use your index fingers and thumbs to manipulate the string.
After you place the string between two teeth, you pull the floss across and gently rub up and down the tooth. You then repeat the same process on the other side.
Tiff continued: “I use Crest classic vivid white whitening strips (but you can use any brand you like”.
She then uses a pair of scissors to cut the strips in half to “minimise sensitivity”, but added that this would depend on the size of your teeth.
“Why? Because usually when you bite into cold things it can be sensitive but by cutting them you minimise sensitivity because you’re not wrapping the striped behind your teeth,” she added.
This means you can save the other half for another teeth whitening session.
She then uses a piece of tissue paper to pat down her teeth and make sure they are completely dry as “the drier the better so the strips can stick on”.
TikTok user @Tiffkimmm then aligns the strips to her upper and lower teeth.
She said: “A little hack – if you have retainers, I put them over the strips for extra security. Again, if you don’t have any, you’ll be ok”.
Tiff keeps them on for 30 minutes and usually showers while she waits.
She then removed the strips and wiped off the excess gel before brushing her teeth.
Tiff finally showed off the finished results, which left her teeth looking pearly white.
In the caption, she added: “I do this maybe 1-2x a month for maintenance since I am a heavy coffee drinker!”
According to experts at Sporting Smile, you should use teeth whitening strips every day for “about 30 minutes until you see your desired results”.
In a YouTube video titled ‘How Often Should You Use Whitening Strips?’, they continued: “If you have any sensitivity or irritation in your gums or teeth, stop immediately and take a week off from whitening.”
