Saratoga mayor states her case at Wildwood Park

This year’s State of the City event, held at Wildwood Park on Sept. 9, was a huge success. Thanks to all who organized this creative way let citizens know what’s going on in our town.

Saratoga High School’s Class of 1968 is celebrating its 55th reunion. The Falcon alumni get together every year, and the annual event is so popular that they are meeting up twice this year. The first reunion was held at alumna Jena D’Angelo’s house in Corvallis. The Saratoga reunion will be held Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. For the location and more information, email jjsjj@aol.com.

If you haven’t tried moonlight kayaking, led by guide Greg Meyer for Los Gatos Saratoga Recreation, it is fabulous. Paddlers ages 18 and older can sign up now for a sunset kayak cruise on Elkhorn Slough on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2-7 p.m., for $56. A day kayaking trip is set for Oct. 29, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at Ravenswood Peninsula. https://www.lgsrecreation.org

The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce is busy this fall. First up, the annual gathering of the scarecrows will begin on Big Basin Way starting Friday, Sept. 29. Last year saw 75 scarecrows created by business and homeowners, and organizers hope for more this year. It’s a clever way to get visitors to the Saratoga Village.

The community is invited to join the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce for the inaugural President and  Mayor’s Ball on Saturday, Oct. 7, 6-10 p.m., at the Saratoga Country Club. Special honor will be given to those in our community who go above and beyond to make a difference. Volunteer, businessperson and citizen of the year will be recognized along with Mayor Kookie Fitzsimmons and those who have held the office previously. The annual Witchy Walkabout is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28, 2-4 p.m. Children can wear Halloween costumes, bring their trick-or-treat bags to gather goodies from merchants and join in children’s activities at 14460 Big Basin Way. It’s a great event, sponsored by the Saratoga Village Development Council.

Halloween is going to the dogs in a good way with a pet parade and costume contest. It’s billed as the biggest pet event in Saratoga. Should be something to bark about when the dogs come dressed in costume to Wildwood Park Oct. 28, 3-5:30 p.m.

There’s a new business in downtown Saratoga. Yoga Six promises less stress with hot, restorative and sculpturing yoga.  A ribbon cutting on Saturday, Oct. 4 at noon will include free classes, raffle and giveaways.

The annual Cancer CAREpoint Garden Party was held last month at Nestldown thanks to Mark and Barbara Beck, who provided the venue. “I am overwhelmed with gratitude for all: the Becks, our volunteers who created a fabulous event and our sponsors and supporters who generously gave over $1.1M to care for cancer patients, survivors, family members and caregivers in our community,” executive director Dawn Hogh said. “As Ruth (Slyngstad) so eloquently shared, you have given the gift of time to people impacted by cancer, and we are so grateful for your support. No one should face cancer alone.” Cancer CAREpoint provides personalized support services and programs for anyone impacted by cancer in the Bay Area.
