Shoppers horrified after noughties fashion trend is making a comeback & people are saying it looks worse than ever
THE noughties were an interesting time for fashion, and it looks like it’s about to haunt us all once more.
Wearing dress over trousers is making a comeback and it’s left millennials feeling more nauseous than nostalgic.
You may have fond memories of flicking through a glossy magazine to see the likes of Hilary Duff and Sienna Miller rocking the baffling look, and you are about to get a wave of deja-vu.
Gigi Hadid was one of the first stars to champion a noughties-style outfit in 2016, wearing a denim skirt over jeans.
And things have spiralled since then.
In the Autumn/Winter 2023 fashion shows we saw models sashay down the runway in a number of dresses or skirts over trousers.
Numerous influencers and fashionistas followed suit, being snapped in street styles that would make you think you’d eerily stepped back in time.
Now the bold look has trickled down into high street stores, with Urban Outfitters and Ragged Priest jumping on the bandwagon.
Some shops are even offering jeans with an inbuilt skirt and belt, if you want to fully commit to the cause.
For those who remember the days of CD walkmans and floppy discs, the resurgence of the fashion trend has not gone down well.
One millennial shared a snap of a mannequin in her local Urban Outfitters store which was dressed in jeans and a long purple dress.
She wrote: “I saw this in Urban Outfitters the other day and almost had a heart attack.
“Dear Gen Z please don’t do it.
“You’ll regret it.
“I understand bringing low rise jeans back but I beg you to just skip this whole awkward phase out and never bring it back.”
It wasn’t long before the post garnered over 721,000 views and received hundreds of comments – with very mixed responses.
“You wont catch me in that,” noted one.
A second agreed: “Low rise jeans are fine however that is hmmmmmm.”
A third quipped: “Pretty sure I destroyed all evidence of my experimentation with this trend.”
And another joked: “At this point, they’re seeing how far we’ll go.”
