This Movie Star JFK Allegedly Had an Affair With Also Sang Him ‘Happy Birthday’ After Marilyn Monroe
While everyone remembers and often discusses the time Marilyn Monroe sexily sang “Happy Birthday,” no one seems to remember another one of John F Kennedy’s alleged, A-list mistresses that did the same thing the following year.
Per Biography, Kennedy’s alleged former flame Audrey Hepburn sang “Happy Birthday” to him one year after Monroe’s rendition. While this was highly speculated for some time, her performance was confirmed when a letter was unearthed.
The letter and envelope that was sent to the Breakfast at Tiffany’s star can be viewed at the JFK Archives. Eyewitnesses recounted what it read, saying: “June 18, 1963 – Dear Audrey: I want you to know how much I appreciated all the efforts you made and time you spent in making my Birthday Party in New York on May 23rd such a success. It was delightful and I am very grateful to you for the part you played in making it so enjoyable. With every good wish, Sincerely [John F. Kennedy] – Miss Audrey Hepburn, 100 Delfern, Beverly Hills, California.”
So for those that don’t know, Kennedy allegedly had an affair with both Monroe and Hepburn. While Monroe’s is quite well-known, Hepburn’s is shrouded in mystery. However, Christopher Anderson’s book Jack and Jackie: Portrait of an American Marriage dived way more into the allegations.
He alleged that not only did Kennedy and the Roman Holiday legend have an affair, but she showed him a side of herself that nobody else really got to see. “She was extremely intelligent, well-read, and lots of fun,” Anderson penned. “Audrey had this intoxicating laugh – pretty much what you saw on screen – but she also had this very sexy, very naughty side that the public never saw.”
Their affair was quite short-lived, but it seemed they remained on a colleague level since she sang for him.
