MATTE black doors are a gorgeous statement home feature, and can instantly make your place appear heaps more expensive.

But getting a painter in to get the luxury look can be pretty expensive, so one savvy homeowner has come up with a bizarre hack to do the job yourself.

Alex and Claire, who post on Instagram as @Roseleigh_Rose, regularly share videos of their journey renovating their Bungalow in Kent.

They’ve racked up more than 20k followers with their tips on budget-friendly home improvements, after buying a rather dilapidated bungalow last year.

In a recent clip, Claire told viewers that she wanted “luxury, black statement interior doors”, but confessed, “as you know I always keep it real and well, we just couldn’t afford them”.

“So I decided to create a luxury look door on a budget,” the unperturbed influencer added.

The canny creator said that she and Alex bought a plain door for cheap from B&Q – you can pick a similar one up on the website for between £35 and £42, depending on size.

Claire then whipped out an unlikely DIY tool to begin transforming the door: a £4 Velvotan tanning mitt from Boots.

She first used the mitt to smoothly coat the door with a grey undercoat, before leaving it to dry, and repeating the process with the matte black top coat.

The inventive influencer then showed off the final result at the end of the video: a gorgeous, pricey looking door with an impressively even finish.

“OMGGGG what a game changer this is,” Claire wrote in the caption.

“It made the whole process so easy and got them done in a quarter of the time it usually takes me,” she added.

“I hate painting doors and trying to get the brush streaks out, but the mitt left the whole door streak free.”

Claire finished the look by adding gold beehive door knobs, which you can pick up online from Amazon or in person from most homeware stores.

“Ohhhh my, they are just the dream,” she gushed. “Exactly how I visioned them, only a lot cheaper [sic].”

The clip racked up an impressive 35k views, with followers super impressed by the foolproof hack.

“They look great,” one wrote “I think I need this mitt to transform our doors.”

“Oww they look gorgeous,” another added. “I do love a black door, they look so regal.”

“The fake tan mitt is genius,” a third declared.
