BBC Breakfast host leaves fans gutted as they announce break from show – as they demand presenter swap is made permanent
BBC Breakfast viewers were sad to hear that a host they enjoyed is taking a break from the show after he finished subbing in for a colleague.
Ben Thomas, 41, joined Naga Munchetty on the red sofa last week while Charlie Stayt took some time off.
Fans loved his on-screen personality and were gutted when he announced Sunday September 24 was his last time presenting the morning show.
One viewer joked that BBC Breakfast didn’t realise what they were letting the audience in for, after an outpouring of fans begging for Ben’s spot to become permanent.
Ben took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce his exit.
He said: “Thanks for your company! Last BBC Breakfast of the week today, popping up with a bit of BBC News tomorrow then some time off.”
One watcher joked: “Ben you’ve been the best thing on breakfast for ages. Get your bum back asap, on holiday again? (From my sun lounger in Marbella).”
Another added a heartfelt plea for him to get more airtime, writing: “I love to see you on BBC breakfast. More please, such fun.”
A third agreed: “Brilliant!!! The way you and Naga bounce off each other is good to watch!”
A sweet viewer shared: “That’s a shame, will miss you on our screens Ben. Enjoy your time off.”
The goofy newsreader previously had to hide his face on air when talking viewers through a story that involved snakes as he is so afraid of the animals.
Viewers were very supportive, sharing their phobias with him and saying they would like to give him a hug.
