A SHEFFIELD UNITED fan went viral after she was spotted in the stands reading a book as her team conceded eight goals.

The Blades were thrashed 8-0 by Newcastle at Bramall Lane, although it was a game they would like to forget.

The home side, still in search of their first win since returning to the Premier League, put in a horror show of a performance.

And with just 15 minutes to go and trailing 7-0, the Sky Sports cameras cut to a supporter who took to reading her book instead of watching the game.

That drew plenty of attention on social media.

And fan simply commented: “What a woman.”

According to a local newspaper, the fan regularly gets out her book at matches as she accompanies her blind husband to the stadium.

Nathan Hemmingham of Yorkshire Live tweeted: “Regarding the lady pictured reading a book during game yesterday, she comes every week with her blind husband and his guide dog.

“They pick up a blind commentaries headset and he listens to the game.

“She has no interest in the match and reads during it.”

Sheffield United’s start to the Premier League has been less than impressive.

They sit rock bottom after their latest display, and have lost five of their first six games.

Their goal difference is now -12, with their only point of the campaign coming in a 2-2 draw with Everton on September 2.

In Sunday’s embarrassing defeat, they were 3-0 down at the break thanks to goals from Sean Longstaff, Dan Burn and Sven Botman.

After the break, Callum Wilson added a fourth, before Anthony Gordon got a goal that his performance merited.

Miguel Almiron and Bruno Guimaraes added No6 and No7 before Alexander Isak added the final eighth.

The win puts Newcastle up to eighth spot, with half of their 16 goals scored this season coming on their fruitful trip to Sheffield.

But struggling Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom is fighting for his job.
