Legendary comedy series ‘returning to screens’ as writers strike finally ends – but fans are fuming
The Office, US is making a comeback to screens as the writers strike comes to an end – but fans are not happy.
The US sitcom, a copy of Ricky Gervais‘ classic BBC mockumentary comedy, aired from 2005 until 2013 before being cancelled.
But now it’s been revealed that, The Office US is reportedly being considered for a renewal.
It appears that a comeback is already in the works, since the Writers Guild of America (WGA) declared a “tentative agreement”, implying that the writers strike is coming to an end.
This means that if the agreement is approved by the board and members, the strike would be formally ended after more than a month.
People are now speculating about what this change could mean because it appears like studios and writers are coming to an understanding.
The Office US creator Greg Daniels is allegedly interested in a revival, according to Matthew Belloni and Jonathan Handel at Puck News who have made predictions about the upcoming impact.
Puck journalist Matthew Belloni shared that “there will be a ‘stampede’ that revolves around ‘every show and movie fighting for the same resources as studios try to salvage their 2024 slates.'”
“We’re also about to see a firehose of announcements of projects and castings that have been held back for fear of bad optics or violating guild rules. Greg Daniels is set to do a reboot of The Office, for instance.”
It’s unclear whether any of the original cast members will return, or what the plot will be.
Of course, nothing has been confirmed, and many fans are convinced that the restored series would not be the same as the original.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter one wrote: “They want to take my memories away from me.”
Another added: “It just won’t be the same sorry!”
A third penned: “Why do they insist on rebooting everything, it won’t be like the original, I just know it.”
A fourth wrote: “This sounds like a terrible idea, but hopefully they can make it work.”
While a fifth added: “Why are they even bringing it back, I don’t get it?”
