Abortion Pill Kills Woman, Causes Deadly Sepsis That Took Her Life
They say the abortion pill mifepristone is safe for women, but yet another woman has died from it.
As LifeNews reported, news has just surfaced that Alyona Dixon, 24, died on September 28, 2022 after complications from the abortion forced her to seek emergency medical treatment four days after the abortion at Planned Parenthood. Her family is now suing the Las Vegas hospital that treated her, saying it did not provide adequate medical care for the abortion complications.
At the Planned Parenthood abortion center, Dixon received the dangerous mifepristone abortion pill that has killed dozens of other women and injured thousands. The pill has been linked to sepsis, which has killed other women taking the abortion drug, including Dixon.
In response to the news, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America’s State Policy Director Katie Daniel told LifeNews that the abortion pill needs to be pulled from the market because ti kills women and children.
“The abortion lobby pounces on any tragic case to fearmonger about pro-life laws after Dobbs. Yet when it comes to the death of 24-year-old Alyona Dixon from abortion pill complications, they are absolutely silent. One year ago, we have just now learned, Dixon went to Planned Parenthood for a chemical abortion. Six days later she was dead,” Daniel said.
She asked: “Media reports leave many unanswered questions about this avoidable tragedy. We demand a full, transparent investigation of this young woman’s death, including the role of Planned Parenthood. Did they warn her about serious risks, including heavy bleeding and even death? Or did they feed her the industry lie that abortion pills are ‘safer than Tylenol’?”
Further, Daniel said: “Federal data shows the rate of abortion pill-related emergency room visits rose more than 500% over a decade and a half, meaning potentially thousands of injured women every year. Even worse, if her complications are miscoded in the ER as a natural miscarriage, she is more than twice as likely to be admitted for surgery. Does Planned Parenthood actually care about women, or did they counsel Dixon to conceal her abortion from ER doctors? Was her death ever reported to the FDA as required?”

Daniel continued:
“Not only Alyona Dixon’s family but the American people deserve answers. Any woman considering taking abortion pills must at least receive accurate medical information, not abortion lobby PR designed to maximize profits. Yet Nevada’s radical pro-abortion laws lack almost any protections for babies in the womb or their mothers. Biden’s FDA, too, must be held accountable for removing safety standards and allowing mail-order abortion pills without even an in-person doctor visit. Abortion pills are dangerous and do not belong on the market.”
Four days after the abortion, Dixon complained of “sharp” lower abdominal pain that started the previous day, according to details provided in the lawsuit and she went to Dignity Health hospital.
After a few tests — notably without a pelvic exam or a consultation with a gynecologist — Dixon was discharged on the afternoon of Sept. 26, the lawsuit says. She was told to follow up with a gynecologist, and go to the emergency room right away if her symptoms worsened or changed.
Dixon went to the emergency room at Desert View Hospital in Pahrump after 11 p.m. on Sept. 27, and also reported vaginal bleeding. A doctor there described her condition: “abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea, severe dehydration, acute renal failure, leukocytosis, sepsis, lactic acidosis, hypokalemia, sinus tachycardia, metabolic acidoses, pulseless electrical activity, respiratory failure.” After treating Dixon and seeing her symptoms improve, the doctor got approval to transfer her to a Clark County hospital.
But her condition quickly deteriorated an hour later and she remained at Desert View, according to an attorney.
As her heart rate elevated to 150 and she had trouble breathing, doctors worked to intubate and sedate her. She vomited during the process and her heart stopped. Attempts to resuscitate her failed, and she was declared dead at 5:32 a.m. on Sept. 28. The Clark County Coroner’s Office gave her cause of death as “complications from septic abortion.”
Dixon’s family is suing Dignity Health, claiming it failed to properly diagnose and treat her abortion complications. Curiously, the lawsuit does not appear to name Planned Parenthood, which appears to have botched the abortion in the first place — leading to the medical problems for which Dixon required treatment.
Mark Rouse of Bighorn Law in Las Vegas is the family’s attorney and he says doctors at the hospital failed to properly diagnose the sepsis that led to her death.
“The death of Alyona Dixon was tragic and devastating for her young family,” Rouse said Friday. “Alyona loved kids and hoped to one day operate a kid’s play center. Unfortunately, she will never have that opportunity. We believe the evidence will show that Alyona’s death was preventable and that the defendants should be held accountable for their conduct.”
Dixon already had a child previously and was eight weeks pregnant.
Earlier this year, reports surfaced of a woman in Canada who also died from the abortion pill and septic shock associated with it.

The tragic news comes as abortion activists push to expand the abortion drug mifepristone across the U.S. and Canada, claiming it’s “safer than Tylenol.” In actuality, the drug has been linked to the deaths of millions of unborn babies and dozens of mothers.
In the latest case, records from Health Canada show that a 19-year-old woman died of septic shock after taking the abortion drug, according to Campaign Life Coalition.
The government document shows that, on July 4, 2022, a hospital reported a 19-year-old female used the abortion drug Mifegymiso and died of “septic shock,” a known risk of the drug. Mifegymiso is a brand name for mifepristone, or RU-486, coupled with a second drug, misoprostol, which are used to abort unborn babies up to about 10 weeks.
Although abortion activists claim the drug is extremely safe for women, reports of women’s deaths, data and studies show the opposite to be true. Even the Health Canada government website warns women that the abortion drug has serious risks, including death.
Pete Baklinski, director of communications at Campaign Life Coalition, said the young woman’s and her unborn baby’s deaths are a tragedy that could have been prevented.
“This woman’s death and the death of her child are on Health Canada’s hands,” Baklinski told LifeNews. “This human pesticide is not only deadly to the smallest members of the human family, but to pregnant mothers as well. The abortion pill must be immediately pulled from the Canadian market. Health Canada must declare it an imminent hazard to public health.”
In the United States, at least 28 women’s deaths have been linked to the abortion drug, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In England, a recent GB News investigation also found a massive increase in emergency calls for abortion pill complications since the country began allowing abortion drugs to be sold through the mail.
The drug mifepristone, typically used with a second drug, misoprostol, now is used to abort more than half of all unborn babies in the U.S. every year, or nearly half a million, according to the Guttmacher Institute. In the U.S., the FDA recommends their use up to 10 weeks of pregnancy, but some abortion businesses sell them later in pregnancy.
Studies indicate the risks of the abortion drug are more common than what abortion activists often claim, with as many as one in 17 women requiring hospital treatment. A recent study by the Charlotte Lozier Institute found that the rate of abortion-related emergency room visits by women taking the abortion drug increased more than 500 percent between 2002 and 2015.
Another new study from the University of Toronto, “Short-Term Adverse Outcomes After Mifepristone–Misoprostol Versus Procedural Induced Abortion,” published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, found that one in ten women who took the abortion pill had to go to the emergency room, according to Pregnancy Help News.
A group of U.S. doctors and medical associations recently sued President Joe Biden’s administration for its decisions to drop safety regulations for the abortion drug. They said administration officials skirted the safety review process and put lives at risk in their decision to allow abortion businesses to sell abortion drugs through the mail.
Abortions are not safe for mothers or unborn babies. The purpose of an abortion is to kill an unborn child, but sometimes mothers die, too. Abortion activists often down-play the risks and claim abortions are extremely safe when they are legal, but the evidence indicates that legalizing abortion only destroys more lives.
