I transformed my laundry room – a cheap Ikea buy deserves the spotlight, my hack made them even better
A DIY expert has shared the Ikea buy that took her laundry room from lame to luxe.
The affordable item was the star of the stylishly transformed space.
“A moment for all the hard work put into this laundry room,” said the home guru behind (@creatively.crisp).
She showed how her upgraded laundry room went from drab – wire rack included – to decorative.
It also took some new wallpaper and tiles – but she credited her Ikea cabinets with making the most eye-catching difference.
“Perfection!” said one impressed follower.
“I thought that these cabinets deserved their own spotlight,” she said in a second video.
She explained the hack involved using the Ikea knoxhult wall cabinet for $65 each and a $9.98 piece of one-by-four premium prime radius edge trim from Loews.
“I used some liquid nails and a couple real nails to create the shaker style door.”
The DIYer also demonstrated the importance of giving a really good sand when painting – especially with Ikea laminate furniture.
“Just to knock down the shine a little bit and give the paint something to grip to,” she said.
After doing one coat with what she called a really good primer, she painted it a pewter green shade from Sherwin Williams.
She then mounted the cabinet to the wall over the washer.
Lastly, she added some hardware.
“I use a piece of scrap wood as a template with pre-drilled holes.”
She then screwed in the new handle and just like that, she had a whole new laundry room look.
