The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the deadline for exchanging Rs 2,000 notes until October 7, 2023. Around 93% of the Rs 2,000 banknotes have already been returned to the banking system since the RBI decided to withdraw them in May. As of August 31, the value of Rs 2,000 banknotes in circulation was Rs 0.24 lakh crore. The RBI has urged people to deposit or exchange their notes during September to avoid last-minute rush.
