Canada secures Paris 2024 qualification in men’s artistic gymnastics
The Canadian men’s artistic gymnastics team has secured a quota spot for the Olympic Games for the first time since 2008.
The team of Zachary Clay, Rene Cournoyer, Felix Dolci, William Emard, and Jayson Rampersad, earned fourth place in the team event qualification round at the 2023 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, which secures Canada a spot in Paris 2024.
Canada amassed 249.26 points across six disciplines to finish fourth behind the Japan, the U.S., and Great Britain.
The team combined to have the third-highest scoring average among competing nations in both the rings event, and horizontal bar.
Rene Cournoyer was the leading performer for Team Canada on Saturday. He finished 17th in the all-around qualification, with a score of 81.998.
With Saturday’s result, Canada will compete in the team final on Tuesday in Belgium.
