DARK circles can be caused by a variety of factors including late nights or an unhealthy diet – and let’s face it, they’re not a good look on anyone.

But there’s no need to fork out on expensive surgery or pricey skincare to try and banish your eye bags for good, as it turns out there’s a much simpler and cheaper solution…coffee.

A makeup whizz took to TikTok (@gwmakeup) to suggest that rather than drinking coffee, which can be bought for as little as 99p, we should be using it as part of our beauty regime.

In the short clip, she says: “Korean beauty secret for dark circles.”

The beauty guru can then be seen mixing together a solution consisting of instant coffee, honey and water.

She notes: “I only do it 1-2 times a week.

“Sweet almond oil is also really good for dark circles for the rest of the days.”

And according to Dr Amit Bangia, Senior Consultant Dermatologist, Asian Hospital, Faridabad, coffee has some major benefits when it comes to removing dark circles because it can improve blood circulation.

“Coffee is also anti-inflammatory and high in antioxidants, which means it reduces the damage caused by lack of sleep on the skin around the eyes,” the expert says, speaking to Health Shots.

“Additionally, caffeine in coffee has the ability to absorb accumulated water and is extremely effective in reducing puffiness and swelling around the eyes.”

The post has since gone viral, garnering an impressive 1.2 million views and several comments from social media users.

“Don’t have this on over 15 minutes, trust me, my eye was all red and i just saw like a blur filter,” wrote one.

The makeup up whizz noted: “Yes only 5-10 mins!”

A second penned: “It works!”

And it’s not the first time beauty gurus have taken to social media to suggest using coffee to brighten your under-eye area.

Dani Cole also demonstrated how she rustles up a homemade mixture consisting of common cupboard essentials, including coffee.

Firstly, she adds a teaspoon of ground coffee to a bowl, which is then followed with the same amount of liquid honey.

If you’re allergic to honey, the beauty whizz recommends swapping this with probiotic yogurt.

She then simply says to apply the mixture under your eyes and let it work it’s magic, which should take around 10 minutes.
