Three to be interviewed for Broward College interim leader position
Three candidates with past ties to Broward College plan to compete on Tuesday to become the temporary leader.
The college received 11 applications by the deadline Sunday for acting president and determined that three qualified and will be interviewed as finalists.
The qualifications included being a current or former Broward employee and having 15 years or more in higher-education leadership, although education can substituted for some experience, according to the job posting.
The three finalists are:
- Barbara Bryan, who served for 25 years as an administrator at Broward College, including as campus president of the north campus in Coconut Creek from 2006 to 2013, according to her LinkedIn profile.
- Henry Mack, an education lobbyist, a former Broward College administrator, a former state education chancellor and a recent finalist for the presidency at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers.
- Cesar Florian, the least well-known of the three. He owns an immigration legal services company and formerly owned a tutoring company, according to state records. A website for a former company said he “tutored students registered with the Disability Office in Broward College Central campus for two years.”
None of the three candidates could be reached Monday afternoon.
The three candidates are scheduled to be interviewed at a meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the downtown Fort Lauderdale campus at 111 E. Las Olas Blvd. They will be asked the same questions and each interview will last about 45 minutes, college officials said.
A new acting president is expected to be chosen at the end of the meeting. That person will also be allowed to apply for the permanent president position once that becomes open.
The successful candidate will replace Gregory Haile, who abruptly resigned last month following recent conflicts with the Gov. Ron DeSantis-appointed Board of Trustees.
