I work at M&S & wanted to see exactly what you could get for £20 – from a pineapple to eggs you DON’T have to scrimp
AN EMPLOYEE at M&S decided to test out exactly what you could get for £20, insisting that it’s not as expensive and everyone believes.
Taking to social media, the man shared a clip of himself dressed in a pair of dark green trousers alongside his M&S branded T-shirt as he got a trolley and went inside the store.
“So people always say M&S is expensive, so follow us along to see how much we can get in a trolley for under £20,” he said.
He decided to tackle the fruit and vegetable section, where he picked up a whole pineapple for just £1.15 and a bunch of bananas scanning for 53p.
The man then picked up carrots for 50p, potatoes for £1, a lettuce head for 75p and a single onion for 20p.
He also got a half baguette for 80p before sharing: “Now what do you want with that? Ham for only £1.50 or a can of tomato soup at 75p or some beans at 50p.”
“For all my gym bros, let’s add some protein,” he continued. “Add some eggs for a remarkable £1.25.”
He then revealed you can get a packet of chicken legs for just £1.50 and sausages for £2.
If you need some carbs added to the mix, you can pick up 75p pasta, too.
Tackling breakfast, he suggested a cup of yoghurt that can be purchased for 75p paired with some tea from “one of our 80 teabags for £1.10”.
You can add milk to this for £1.15 and if you want some biscuits with your tea, then you munch on some custard creams for 30p or bourbon creams for 35p.
“Now you want a drink and a snack?” he went on. “How about a lemonade for 95p or a glass of squash for £1.
“A snack you say? How about a fan-favourite bag of Cheese Tasters for £1.10.”
He then brought the trolley over to the till, where his colleague tallied it all up.
TikTok user @devizesmands said: “So 22 items, that’s an average of under £1. The grand total is £19.98.
“Oh you want a carrier bag? Well that’s 30p and you’re out of budget so make sure to bring your own.”
In the caption, he added: “Do you still think M&S is expensive?”
People were quick to comment on the post as one person wrote: “Company’s spend millions on advertising. This lad has nailed it with a TT , well done kid,” followed by a smiling face emoji.
Another said: “M&S isn’t expensive trust me!! Sainsburys on the other hand is expensive,” followed by a crying with laughter emoji.
A third wrote: “anyone who genuinely shops in Marks and Spencer, knows it’s not actually that expensive and frequently can be cheaper than other supermarkets.”
While a fourth added: “I dont know why people think its so expensive. It’s just the same as everywhere else.”
