Rioter who called Jan. 6 'biblical' before slamming reporter NFL-style sentenced

A Capitol rioter who attacked a police officer and a Reuters cameraman on Jan. 6, 2021 has been sentenced to more than four years in prison, The Washington Post reported.

According to prosecutors, Shane Jason Woods, 45, tackled the cameraman “like an NFL linebacker hunting a quarterback after an interception."

He also attacked and injured a female police officer by blindsiding her and knocking her off her feet into a metal barricade.

“Woods’ actions were as cowardly as they were violent and opportunistic,” prosecutors wrote. “He targeted people smaller than him who did not see him coming. He attacked people who had done nothing whatsoever to even engage with him, let alone harm or block him.”

Before heading to the Capitol that day, Woods told a friend: "It's going to be biblical."

Woods was sentenced to four years and six months on prison after prosecutors recommended a sentence of five years and 11 months. He pleaded guilty to assault charges in September 2022.
