A Wethersfield man is charged with breaking into a Wallingford veterinary hospital and taking at least one item from the business, police said.

Wallingford Police Department officers who investigated the burglary at the Yalesville Veterinary Hospital, located at 322 Church St. went to the site late Wednesday after receiving a notification of an activated burglar alarm, police said. The officers found a broken window at the rear of the building and spotted footprints on the concrete wall just below the window, police said.

The officers secured the area and searched the building, finding several “cabinets open with medicine bottles strewn about the floor,” police said

There was nobody in the building but the officers reviewed surveillance video, gaining a description of the suspect, police said.

The officers determined the suspect might still be in the densely wooded immediate area and deployed police dog Tate and his handler for a track, police said. Mark Coitrone, 32, whose last known address is 24 Wolcott Road, Wethersfield, was located about 100 yards away, police said.

Coitrone was in the wooded area and allegedly had “at least one item that was taken in the burglary,” police said. The item was not identified by police.

Coitrone was taken to the Wallingford Police Department and charged with second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny, police said.

Coitrone is due to appear on the chares at Superior Court in Meriden on October 25, police said.

Anyone who has further information is asked to contact the Wallingford Police Department’s Patrol and Community Impact Unit at 203- 294-2800  or visit www.police.wallingfordct.gov.
