The Facts:
A post mimicking the Inquirer.net publication material cited the names of Department of Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa and the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital encouraging people to buy a cure for diabetes online.
This is false.
The Department of Health (DOH) warned the public in an advisory issued on Sept. 4 on a circulating fake article about a diabetes cure. The department clarified that no such statement has been made by the department or its officials.
“Further, the Department reminds everyone that non-communicable diseases and comorbidities such as diabetes can be prevented by practicing healthy habits such as proper diet and exercise among others,” it added.
The DOH also stressed that criminal charges could be filed against those behind the post.
Why we fact-checked this:
A medical endorsement by a Secretary of Health is effective because the reputation is put in line. That’s why a fake endorsement like this will not only harm the consumer but the endorser.
