Prosecutors taking down Jan. 6 rioters face 'pervasive' threat campaign: report

0

Matthew Graves, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, is warning that a "pervasive" campaign of threats is growing against the prosecutors working on January 6 riot cases, reported Politico on Friday.

Graves made the comments in an interview with congressional investigators working for the House Judiciary Committees, whose transcript was obtained by Politico.

“People are trying to fuel the sentiment of stoking ire against these dedicated civil servants,” said Graves. “And you really don’t even know the extent of it because it’s not group affiliated.”

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

Graves also declined to share the names of prosecutors in his office who were involved in the decision not to work with prosecutor David Weiss in his gun and tax investigation of Hunter Biden, a frequent point of contention by Trump supporters —saying that exposing their identities could put them at risk as well.

This comes amid a number of other reports of violent threats against prosecutors, with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, the prosecutor behind the Georgia election racketeering case against former President Donald Trump, reporting some 150 threats to her office.

More broadly, members of Congress have also come under threat, with Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) in particular receiving constant harassment.
