I struggle to remember important dates since road accident – it’s so frustrating
DEAR DEIDRE: I ALWAYS prided myself on making my loved ones feel appreciated on special occasions, but since my accident I struggle to remember important dates.
So now I feel terrible after forgetting my young nephew’s birthday.
I was in a coma following a road accident which caused me traumatic brain injury.
Now I suffer regular memory loss and it’s really getting me down.
I am a 32-year-old man and the doctors all said I was lucky to be alive.
I know this, but I still get very frustrated when my mind lets me down.

Apart from birthdays, I’ve forgotten interviews, family lunches and appointments.
I am very close to my brother and was honoured when he named his son after me.
I love my nephew as if he was my own, so hate letting him down.
I know my family worries about me, too. I used to be a happy-go-lucky kind of guy.
