Motorcyclist dies in crash on I-95 in Fort Lauderdale
A 27-year-old man from Miramar was killed about 2 a.m. Saturday when he crashed his motorcycle into the back of a Volkswagen Jetta on Interstate 95 near Broward Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The incident triggered a chain-reaction crash involving the motorcycle, the Jetta and two other vehicles, said Lt. Indiana Miranda, a spokeswoman for the Florida Highway Patrol.
The motorcyclist, whose name was not released by FHP, was thrown from his motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.
He was heading south on I-95 when he hit the Jetta from behind, Miranda said.
The driver of a Honda Accord hit the brakes to avoid slamming into the motorcycle, causing the driver of an Acura Integra to rear-end the Honda. The impact pushed the Accord into the victim’s Ducati Panigale motorcycle.
Troopers closed the southbound lanes of I-95 for most of Saturday morning while they investigated the crash, according to a report by WSVN-Ch. 7.
The accident remains under investigation.
