‘The Boys in the Boat’ trailer: First look at George Clooney’s film about the 1936 U.S. Olympic rowing team

Amazon MGM Studios has dropped the trailer that supplies the first look at director George Clooney’s “The Boys in the Boat,” due in theaters Christmas Day, that tells the true story of the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that competed for gold at that year’s Summer Olympics in Berlin. Based on the New York Times bestselling book of the same name by Daniel James Brown, the inspirational true story follows a group of underdogs at the height of the Great Depression as they are thrust into the spotlight and take on elite rivals from around the world. The cast includes Joel Edgerton, Chris Diamantopoulos, Callum Turner, Jack Mulhern, Sam Strike, Luke Slattery, Thomas Elms, Tom Varey, Bruce Herbelin-Earle, Wil Coban, James Wolk, Hadley Robinson, and Courtney Henggeler. Mark L. Smith penned the script adaptation of Brown’s book. Clooney also produces along with Grant Heslov and Donna Gigliotti. MGM produces with Clooney’s Smoke House Pictures and Spyglass Media Group.

“Boys in the Boat” marks the two-time Oscar winner Clooney’s 11th feature directorial effort and his first since 2021’s “The Tender Bar.”
