Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar emphasized the need to enhance and create a foolproof tracking system for the Afghan Transit Trade, instructing further steps to be taken in its development.

He chaired a review meeting over Afghan Transit Trade and anti-smuggling measures, advocating for creating an immediate, integrated transit trade management system, as the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

The meeting was well-attended by senior officials and representatives from various departments, including Caretaker Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akthar and others, indicating its high importance.

Prime Minister Kakar pointed out smuggling and the illegal movement of goods as major economic issues, highlighting the need for immediate and effective measures to combat them.

Meanwhile, he expressed concern over negligence in handling smuggling, particularly in District Chaghi, and directed a complete administrative overhaul and strict punitive measures against anyone involved.

Mr. Kakar also ordered the strengthening of checks at key border areas. He instructed increased customs staff and cargo checking facilities, especially at the Chaman border, to bolster anti-smuggling efforts.

The meeting concluded with a briefing on the progress of an inquiry committee on Afghan Transit Trade, where the prime minister appreciated the work done so far and urged for the earnest compilation of its recommendations, noting the significant reduction in petroleum smuggling due to government efforts.

Recent tensions have escalated between Afghanistan and Pakistan, primarily due to attacks within Pakistan by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). These incidents have significantly strained relations, with Pakistan urging the Kabul administration to take serious and immediate actions to address and mitigate these security threats.

The situation underscores a critical security dilemma in the region, highlighting the necessity for stronger bilateral cooperation and effective measures. Both countries are under pressure to reconcile security concerns with diplomatic ways to ensure peace and stability in the region, particularly in the wake of these TTP-initiated attacks.
