I saved over £600 in a year with odd bits of change thanks to an easy smash money box challenge
A WOMAN has revealed how she saved £647 in a year with odd bits of change thanks to a money saving challenge.
Hannah Marling shared the savvy hack on social media and revealed just how easy the savings challenge was.
She used the ‘smash box money challenge’ which entails getting a box you cannot open and putting money inside throughout the year.
By the end of the year, you smash the box open and see just how much you’ve saved.
For Hannah, she managed to save £647 in total and planned to do it again this year.
Taking to TikTok she said: “It’s nearly 2024, and this is your sign to get yourself a smash money box.”
Hannah revealed she bought hers from Clinton which cost around £10.
“I find it a really good way to save that isn’t going into your normal savings (account),” she explained.
Hannah added that she only uses the pot to save £2 coins and notes which she rakes up quickly throughout the month.
“I would do things like every time I went to get a pedicure, cause they always want cash, I would get out a bit extra, put it in here,” she added.
“I also used to get cash out like once a month and just be like, okay, this is how much I’ve got to spend for this week.
“And then you accumulate loads and loads of change.”
Once you’ve cracked open the savings box, Hannah recommended taking it to a bank to get cashed in to your account rather than one at a supermarket.
Hannah said: “If you put it in those things that, like Sainsbury’s, it takes a certain amount of money off it.”
She also uses the little bank bags used to add up change to bring it to the bank.
While it might not be thousands of pounds, Hannah said it definitely helps when it comes to Christmas time.
She continued: “It’s just a simple way to save for something. As I said, this is your sign to get one of these for 2024.”
The clips quickly went viral on her TikTok account @hannahmarling93 with over 80k views and 3,000 likes.
People were quick to thank her for sharing the money saving challenge.
