Larkspur house fire severely burns occupant
A fire at a residence in Larkspur severely injured an occupant and damaged a converted garage, according to the Central Marin Fire Department.
The fire happened Tuesday night at a two-story house in the 100 block of Murray Avenue. The street runs through a hilly area west of Magnolia Avenue near the Kentfield border.
The initial emergency report said the victim was trapped in the burning home, but a resident came home, pulled the man to safety and extinguished most of the flames before firefighters arrived, said fire Capt. Brian Peterson.
Peterson said firefighters had a difficult time driving to the house because of the neighborhood’s narrow streets and the home’s “narrower” driveway.
“It was more difficult getting the gurney down the driveway,” he said. “Good work for the first-alarm units.”
The victim, whom Peterson described as a man in his 20s, suffered major burns to his lower extremities. Paramedics treated him and transported him to MarinHealth Medical Center.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday.
Kentfield and Ross Valley firefighters and Central Marin police assisted at the fire scene.
